Download the version of the android that you want in your phone, and paste it a micro SD card (needs at least 4GB to work) and insert it in the phone, then, with the phone powered off, you press the volume buttons (Up, and down) and the power button, at the same time for 10 seconds, then release the power button and keep holding the volume buttons until the EMUI logo appears and the phone starts installing the software.
      Hope it helps

I did all the steps recommended above and that works fine – no trouble so far and system loads.
then i installed a custom firmware to improve to oreo – after flashing i am stucked in huawei sign. then i did all the steps on huawei-firmware.com:
Step 5: Now, Press Volume UP, Volume Down and Power Button at the same time for 5-8 seconds until the update process is started automatically.
THIS DOES NOT WORK – i don’t know why, also recovery mode doesn’t react to to the buttons, only TWRP works, but i don’t find any firmware or custom rom for MATE 8 LITE 2017….
    Can you help me please?
