The Moscow Government to Spend 130 Million Rubles on the Installation of Fast-Charging Stations for Electric Cars

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin decided to allocate 130 million rubles for the installation of fast charging stations for electric vehicles. This became known after the meeting of the Presidium of the Moscow Government.

109 electric charging stations have already been installed in Moscow. 42 of them now meet the new city standards of the Department of Transport. They are integrated into the “Moscow Transport” city transport application. This allows drivers to remotely book and activate charging sessions and plan routes to charging stations. The key advantage of the new stations is the ability to charge the car in 20 minutes.

Today, the Moscow Government is working on the creation of another 200 charging stations of the new standard. By the end of 2022, their number will increase by 50. Moreover, by 2023, it is planned to place 600 stations. The analytical agency “Autostat” has found out that over 6 years, the number of electric vehicles (EV) registered in Moscow has grown 8.5 times. At the end of 2015, there were 235 EVs, and at the end of 2021, there were already 2 000.

The stimulus from the Government became one of the principal reasons for the growth. For example, as of now, owners of electric vehicles do not pay transport tax, can park the vehicle for free in paid zones, as well as use charging stations. Continuing on, speaking of the taxi or car sharing owners, the subsidy when buying an electric car is doubled compared with the purchase of an internal combustion engine vehicle. The Government is confident that the development of electric transport will significantly improve the environmental situation in Moscow.
