People have been spending a lot more time in their homes recently. Technological advancement has allowed many businesses to utilise remote working solutions while they ride the wave of the storm. If you’re a business owner, you likely appreciate the online platforms that have allowed you to communicate with staff and manage to stay afloat during this time of uncertainty. It is not surprising that many are asking what are the advantages of remote working? how can you make it a success? and could remote working become permanent?

No commute/more productive

The most obvious advantage to remote working is no commuting time. Working from home takes away the stress of negotiating public transport, traffic issues and other commuting problems beyond your control. With no commute to factor into your day, stress levels are reduced. Workers can be at their desk and ready to start working productively immediately that the working day starts. Although you may be missing the physical interaction with staff, working alone at home is less distracting than in the office, meaning tasks are completed faster and more efficiently. It also allows people to work when they are most productive instead of sticking rigidly to the traditional 9-5 workday. Allowing staff to create a flexible schedule that suits them and provides some autonomy will help you get the best from them.

Use a modern operating system

As a business owner, you are probably familiar with operating systems designed to support workflow and speed up productivity. The innovative functionality of modern Ops has allowed the option of remote working without compromising quality or creating an IT nightmare.

Using a Linux operating system streamlines processes such as updates, you just update your system and your software all at once which is time effective and creates fewer issues than older operating systems.

Managing workflow is easier when using OSs such as SUSE enterprise linux which simplifies efforts to work on the cloud and run workloads from any location in a multi cloud environment.  It runs on servers and provides an engaging platform for developers and IT staff to deploy vital services.

Money-saving

There is no doubt working remotely saves money. Employees incur no travel or extra food costs which makes working from home an attractive option.  You will also save money on business premises and general upkeep required to maintain it. Business premises can be costly, so this could save you a substantial amount of cash.

You will also likely see fewer people calling in sick. If people can stay in the comfort of their own homes, they are more likely to work through any illnesses than make the effort to go to the office. This means less money out of your pocket.

You also will not need to spend money on equipment. Most staff will own PCs and be happy to use them for work. Stationary, furniture, printers, and other office paraphernalia will not be required with a fully remote team.

Considering the above, a remote team experience fewer health problems and mental wellbeing issues than those confined to an office. Less stress means happier workers which is the crux of any successful business. If, you are unsure about whether to make remote working a permanent business model maybe it’s time to embrace the change.
